Benefits of LED Light During a Facial

Benefits of LED Light During a Facial

LED (Light Emitting Diodes) is one of the best aesthetic discoveries of our time. Originally discovered and used by NASA for wound healing and pain management, LED light has become widely used in the aesthetic world. With continued use, it has a multitude of benefits for all types of skin issues including acne, pigmentation, inflammation, redness and premature aging.  It plays well with other modalities and will help delay the aging process.

With internal and external stressors constantly attacking our skin cells, our skin is vulnerable to free radical damage.  Free radicals are scavengers whose sole purpose is to damage our healthy skin cells.  They are sneaky and come from all the things we love: the sun, pollution, mental stress, anxiety, diet, alcohol, to name a few.  We can combat free radical damage which reveals itself as pigmentation, wrinkles, fine lines, fragile and unbalanced skin by using high powered antioxidants like vitamin C and LED light.  You are arming your skin against free radicals and their damaging effects by building up your extracellular matrix (ECM).

LED light therapy is a non-invasive, painless treatment that is beneficial during a facial because it improves cellular performance.  The application of different colors at specific wavelengths of light energy penetrate at different levels to perform specific tasks. Red is for overall skin health and aging, blue is for acne/antibacterial, and green is for pigmentation/inflammation. These are the most popular colors used in aesthetics. It is scientifically proven and clinically researched for prestigious institutions from around the world.

Think about how a plant uses chlorophyll and energy to grow. LED uses the different wavelengths and colors to stimulate tissue repair, hence making your skin stronger and it repairs the damaged skin.  Your skin absorbs particles of light (photons) and converts their energy into adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which in turn synthesizes what is needed to restore and regenerate your skin.  It encourages cellular turnover and helps balance your skin’s ecosystem. This promotes the production of collagen, elastin and fibroblasts, a very important layer of the skin that gives it its suppleness and youthful appearance, naturally.  LED is also known for wound healing including fragile and compromised skin.  It’s even safe if you are pregnant.
